Waiting on Wednesday
Waiting on Wednesday
A weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that people are eagerly anticipating.
My choice for Waiting on Wednesday this week is:
Daughter of Deep Silence
by Carrie Ryan
Publication: June 2nd 2015 by Dutton Juvenile
A delicious
tale of revenge and identity from Carrie Ryan, the bestselling author of The
Forest of Hands and Teeth
In the wake of the deadly devastation of luxury yacht Persephone, just three souls remain to tell its story—and two of them are lying. Only Frances Mace, rescued from the ocean after torturous days adrift with her dying friend Libby, knows that the Persephone wasn’t sunk by a rogue wave as survivors Senator Wells and his son are claiming—it was attacked.
To ensure her safety from the obviously dangerous and very powerful Wells family, Libby’s father helps newly orphaned Frances assume Libby’s identity. Frances has spent years in hiding, transforming herself into Libby, and she can no longer allow the people who murdered her entire family and Libby to get away with it. After years of careful plotting, she’s ready to set her revenge plans into motion—even if it means taking down the boy she’d once been in love with: the senator’s son.
The game has just begun, and Frances is not only playing dirty, she's playing to win.

The Paper Magician Review
The Paper Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg
“I know you don’t love me.
Not yet.
So let’s
introduce the main character, Ceony Twill she’s a 19 year old and from a poor
family. She’s the perfect student and
yet instead of bonding with the magic she wants she’s forced into paper magic.
Do we get a good first impression of her, no. Ceony is whiny which is
understandable but she’s also insensitive towards Thane at first, she’s very up
herself – it’s all about her strengths, her memory and skills. Throughout the
book she’s always mentioning herself and how good she is at everything and
seriously it’s only been a day or two and she’s a pro at paper magic – how believable.
The
pace of the book starts of slow and then all of a sudden it’s a race to the end,
Ceony just decides to investigate the missing heart of Thane and embarks on a
mission to find it, it could be anywhere in the world, the person who stole it
is a powerful magician and deals with the bad type of magic, it just makes
total sense to go after the heart.
Her
reasoning behind going is so damn pathetic. She’s literally met the guy for two
days and he’s a total stranger and then after he comes back and gets his heart
taken from him he’s basically the love of her life! She was obsessed of how
Thane sees her and jealous over Lila and Thane’s relationship and it was just
boring and stupid on her behalf.
Lastly
the plotline for the book is weird and boring – it mainly takes place in Thane’s
Heart! It’s a memory trip down Thane’s past and I didn’t care for it. It was
way too dragged out and Ceony was too desperate to like.

The Fire Sermon
by Francesca Haig
Publication: February 26th 2015 by HarperVoyager , 423 pages
When Zach
and I were born our parents must have counted and recounted: limbs, fingers,
toes. We were perfect. They would have been disbelieving: nobody dodged the
split between Alpha and Omega.
Nobody.
They were born together and they will die together.
One strong Alpha twin and one mutated Omega; the only thing they share is the moment of their death.
The Omegas live in segregation, cast out by their families as soon as their mutation becomes clear. Forced to live apart, they are ruthlessly oppressed by their Alpha counterparts.
The Alphas are the elite. Once their weaker twin has been cast aside, they’re free to live in privilege and safety, their Omega twin far from their thoughts.
Cass and Zach are both perfect on the outside: no missing limbs, no visible Omega mutation. But Cass has a secret: one that Zach will stop at nothing to expose.
The power to change the world lies in both their hands. One will have to defeat the other to see their vision of the future come to pass, but if they’re not careful both will die in the struggle for power.
Nobody.

A Drowned Maiden’s Hair Review
A Drowned Maiden’s Hair by Laura Amy Schlitz
“Maud realised that she had
become something far worse than a secret child.”
Maud
is an 11 year old deprived of love, too old to be adopted from her orphanage. That is until the day two sisters come along
looking to adopt a young child, someone younger than Maud. Miss Hyacinth the
younger sister hears Maud sing and instantly knows she’s the one, its love at
first sight for Maud. Living her dream; nice dresses, books and someone who
cares Maud doesn’t wish for anything else. Well except for the part where she
doesn’t have to be kept hidden but it’s not for too long, right?
Maud
was a decent main character the only thing that really bugged me was her
idolisation for Hyacinth. Though I do know why she did obsess over her and why
that was key to the plotline it got really annoying at most points in the
story. But other than that I quite liked her and the different stages she went
through both physically and emotionally.
At
first there’s the mystery surrounding why she was adopted and is a secret
child. I was expecting something different to be the reason but the actual
reason was actually a good surprise. The idea is quite weird but interesting when
you see the things Maud and the sister’s do to prepare and trick people.
The
second half of the book was much better than the first as Maud got more independent
and realised things for herself. I did pity the situation she was in both
regarding Hyacinth and Mrs Lambert but I did like the way things played out near
the ending.
But
that ending was too perfect and it didn’t suit the book because it was
expected, I knew it was going to happen.

Top Ten Tuesday
Top Ten Tuesday
The
Hunger Games Trilogy – It’s been so long since I’ve read the trilogy and I don’t
even remember what happens. So with the final two movies coming out soon I’d
think I need to reread the trilogy.
Across
the Universe Trilogy – I recently read a new Beth Revis book ‘The Body Electric’
and I really enjoyed the book and so I wanted to continue reading her other
books, what better way than to reread the first book!
Divergent
– I still haven’t read ‘Allegiant’ and so I think by rereading the first two
books I might be able to mentally be ready for Allegiant.
Vampire
Academy – It’s an awesome series which I haven’t reread!
Just
Listen – This was the book that brought me into YA books and I’ve only read it
once. Shame on me!
Out
of Shadows – This book has always been a favourite of mine and yet I for some
reason don’t remember much of it!
Poison
Study – A really good book and I need to continue the rest of the series so why
not reread the first book!
The
Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe – Need I put my reason!
Dark
Triumph – I love this book! Also the last book is coming out soon so to refresh
my memory on the characters, I might as well…
Reboot
– Good book and yet I forgot most of it and so I can’t read the second book.

Maybe One Day Review
Maybe One Day by Melissa Kantor
Things I liked;
. The
plot was interesting – the actual story was nice and it got its point across
.
The past – I really liked Zoe’s and Olivia’s flashbacks and how they once led a
different life and especially how Zoe changed how she was after dance
. Zoe
teaching dance at the community class was a really good subplot and I really
liked how the younger girls were portrayed
. I
also loved the friendship element to the book and how Zoe tries to connect with
Olivia’s friends
Things I didn’t like;
.
Way to past paced
.
Though the plot was interesting there wasn’t enough in it
. We
don’t see enough of Olivia’s personality – which is really important so we can
empathise with her
.
The romance was bad and all over the place
. The
school parts and the friends were all too perfect
.
There wasn’t enough of Zoe and Olivia’s past aside from dance – It would have
been nice to see them when they were finished with dance
.Lastly
that ending was bad – the book’s main topic is essentially friendship and then
to just end it with romance is just wrong
