The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
“Thinking
something does not make it true. Wanting something does not make it real.”
Things I Didn’t Like In The
Book;
.
There wasn’t enough “before” chapters in the book – There was like three or
four chapters and this is where everything started and it wasn’t even told
properly. Adding to that point for all the tension created about her past what
actually happened wasn’t even interesting and a letdown.
. Referring
to the point above what I expected from the story was a mystery story but
instead the story focuses more on the romance between Mara and Noah
.
The way the story was written made the plot messy – everything was jumbled in
the second half. With the focus being on the romance the actual reasoning
behind Mara’s hallucinations/powers was rushed. Everything was being pulled together
all at once; her brother’s kidnapping, her dad’s case and Noah and Mara’s power
revelation.
.
Mara only liked one other girl in the story which was her brother’s girlfriend
(?). This showcasing the stereotype that
only the main character can be the decent female in the story.
.
The ending was rushed, one minute Noah and Mara are talking about her Dad’s
case and then the next second they’re running off and someone’s shot!
The Good;
.
The hallucinations which the main character went through added to the mystery
of the book
. I
was surprised when Mara went to her counsellor and told the truth – most MC
when in the same situation lie or only tell a titbit of information.
. I
liked the cliff-hanger at the end.

I believe this one is already on my TBR shelf. I'm sorry you didn't like it! I'll probably still pick it up at some point, but it's not very high on the list. Thanks for sharing!

I honestly can't remember much about this book! I read it towards the end of last year and I finished it in one day and I know I enjoyed it but I can't remember what I liked..I guess that's not the mark of a great book? Sorry you didn't like this one!
